The Answer of “NO”

Today we are taking a quick detour to provide you with the opportunity to learn from a wonderful lesson that some of our staff at Mill House Ministries learned recently.

Sometimes, God says “no,” and you later realize His “no” protected you from a horrible idea. We won't share the details, but we will explain a few things. God was working on the lives of some of our staff. They had been asking God to say yes to something. Their intentions were pure: they sought the Lord and wanted to glorify Him. For all intents and purposes, they were living out their faith. However, because of circumstances outside their control, God has said no to them. Now they have two options: complain or review the “why.” I am reminded of Steven Curtis Chapman's song “Remember to Remember”; in it, he reminds the Christian to remember the good things the Lord has done. Instead of complaining, they sought the Lord and remembered all the good things He had done. To their surprise, they realized the “no” they received was meant to protect them from being strung across the nation in a way that would have been unsustainable. Simply put, God provided.

Now, do they know where the end result is? Absolutely not, but they are leaning on the Lord. We could cite several Bible verses to support this principle, but today I want you to understand that if we take His word seriously and act on it, we can literally move mountains. God is up to something; let’s be about the work He wants us to do. No matter what, I want to provide a Bible verse, especially one used in their lives, as they have been going through all of this hurricane of life. Examine Psalm 73:23-26: “Nevertheless I [am] continually with You; You hold [me] by my right hand. 24 You will guide me with Your counsel, And afterward receive me [to] glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven [but You?] And [there is] none upon earth [that] I desire besides You. 26 My flesh and my heart fail; [But] God [is] the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” The Psalmist helps us identify the relationship we are supposed to have with the Lord. Do you? Mill House Ministries wants to provide you with encouragement. Seek His Word and ask Him for help. Watch what He does, and when you get a “no” in your life, it might just be for your betterment.
