Let’s Talk Prayer
The summer is coming closer to an end, and for many, they have children who are about to go back to school. We as believers need to be on guard with what our children will be taught, but we also need to be praying for the teachers who are with them. While this passage is primarily in regards to those in the government, I believe it can also apply to those in the school system. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this [is] good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” Many complain about teachers and what they are teaching, but fail to realize that the teacher is a mission field all on its own. A child in the classroom is a perfect excuse to get to know the teacher and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us to witness to them. Over the next couple of weeks, children will start to go to school. Take the time and start praying that God will give you the opportunity to pour into the teachers’ and other school staff’s lives. The world tends to focus on a teacher needing to be thanked, and they should be thanked for the jobs they are hired to do. However, we should be ready to share the Gospel message and tell them the good news of Jesus.
Help your children understand that the teacher might be a mission field for them. What a monumental moment for a child of God to stand up and be exactly what 1 Timothy 2:1-4 is describing in the classroom and respectfully witness to their teachers. As parents, let’s help encourage the younger generation of believers to take opportunities to share what Christ has done in their life and we as parents be ready to capture those moments for Jesus. Peter highlights this readiness by encouraging the believer to be ready, 1 Peter 3:15-16“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always [be] ready to [give] a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.” Talk to your kids and see if they are ready to take this challenge, and ask the Lord to help highlight the best course for this coming school year. It might be the lunch lady or the Principle who might just need to hear the good news of Jesus.
